Exploring the Nissan Pathfinder History

The Pathfinder has a long and interesting history. The 1987 Nissan Pathfinder was our introduction to this two-door model with an aggressive front end, body-on-frame construction, and off-road capabilities. By the end of the generation, the engines produced 145 and 153 horsepower. Nissan gave the Pathfinder a unibody platform for the second generation in 1996, along with more aerodynamic styling. There was also a new 168-horsepower 3.3-liter engine until the 250-horseopwer 3.5-liter V6 arrived in 2001.

The Pathfinder entered its third generation as a 2005 model and went back to the former body-on-frame construction. It was built on a modified F-Alpha platform found on the Armada and Titan. This was also the first time it offered room for seven passengers thanks to a new splitting third row. Another change was the increased engines. For the 2013 model year, the Pathfinder entered its fourth generation with a 240-horsepower V6 and Xtronic transmission that dramatically improved efficiency.
